Japan Trip 4: Kyoto

10.01.2023 - 28.01.2023

Arrival in Kyoto - the former capital

20.01.2023 - Friday

I can hardly wait to carry 60 kilos of suitcases again and we travel by shikanzen to Kyoto, where our next place to stay is until 23.01. We visit the "Nishi Howangji" temple nearby and go to the "Nabeyacho Streetmarket", eat "Gyūkatsu" and drink a matcha beer.

The orange shrine path

21.01.2023 - Saturday

Today we visit the famous "Fushimi Inari" shrine, which is known from so many Japanese media: lots of orange-painted wooden gates and Instagram icons.

Samuel and I also buy a yukata & kimono there: traditional Japanese robes. If you're ever in Japan ^^.

Of temples and shrines

22.01.2023 - Sunday

We visit the golden "Shariden Kinkaku" shrine at lunchtime and the sunset temple "Kiyomizu-deram" in the evening, unfortunately after sunset. These temples are located at both ends of Kyoto, so public bus life is also a cultural experience.

And then there was bamboo

23.01.2023 – Monday

Today is our last day in Kyoto and we are traveling to "Arashiyama" in the bamboo forest. Bamboo can grow quite thick and tall. Everyone tries to get a good selfie between all the tourists. Eventually we manage to do so and after some sightseeing we head home. We travel a bit through the city center of Kyoto, check out a few stores and have dinner. But then it's off home again: check-out is tomorrow, again at 10am.

Next, I travel on with Lena and Anna towards Nagoya, our last stop on the way back to Tokyo for our return flight.

We are already saying goodbye to Samuel for two additional days in Korea, during which we will be traveling through Japan. I will then meet him in Korea during these two days to travel back to Germany together on the flight we have already booked.
